Chaplaincy Activities and Facilities

The Chaplaincy houses a Christian Chapel and we welcome you to join us for a range of weekly worship and prayer activities, which are open to staff and students of all faiths or none. Please see below for our timetable of regular events. As the Claire Chapel is currently open for private prayer only, our programme is currently operating remotely unless stated.

Timetable of regular events

Breathe

Quaker style worship. We gather in attentive silence. We may remain silent throughout the meeting but anyone who is moved to speak may do so.

Tuesdays 1:10-1:40pm on Zoom with Robin Fishwick.

Engaging with Theology

Come and discuss some of the biggest and most controversial questions and topics within Christianity.

19th Jan, 23rd Feb and 23rd Mar at 3-5pm on Zoom with our Student Outreach Workers.

Queer Space@The Chaplaincy 

A space for LGBTQIA+ Christian students and their allies to find faith and fellowship while at university in Leeds.

Tuesdays 5-6pm on Zoom (term-time only) with Rev. Anthea Colledge.

Glimpses of Jesus

Join us for a bible study on the man who split history in two.

Hope Course

The Hope Course is about psychological wellbeing, and is a supportive space for the students and staff of the universities of Leeds in these times of social distancing and loneliness.

The aim of the Hope Course is to look together at some topics related to our psychological wellbeing, such as anxiety, stress, anger, forgiveness, emotional intelligence and resilience, in order to understand them a little better so we can face our future with a renewed hope.

The course will be facilitated by Dr. Juanma Robles, who has a BA in Psychology and a PhD where he researched about the topic of forgiveness. It is open to all students and staff of the universities of Leeds.

Last Wednesday of the month (excluding December) at 10-11am via Zoom.

Midweek Prayers & Reflections

Receive Christian readings and reflections for the week.

International Students Club

Run by volunteers from local churches with the support of the Chaplaincy.

We welcome all students from around the globe to find out about life in the UK, meet new friends and improve your English. We plan a varied programme of activities every week, year round.

As a result of Covid-19 restrictions ISC meetings are paused until further notice.

Chinese Church

Come along to one of our groups to meet new friends, enjoy sharing interests, games and finding out more about the Bible. We are an international group from Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan, speaking Mandarin, Cantonese and English.

Thursdays in Mandarin from 7pm on Zoom with Pr. Kim Chan.

Fridays in Cantonese and English from 7pm on Zoom with Pr. Kim Chan.

Prayer of the Heart

End the week with meditative reflections in the Orthodox tradition.

Emmanuel Café Church (Term-time only)

Emmanuel Café Church is the Sunday worship community at the Chaplaincy. Our worship is focused around discussion, reflection and ritual.

We are a Christian community that is open and inclusive of all, but unified in a desire to grow in faith by being more open to God, more open to one another and more open to the world.

We meet 1st Sunday and 3rd Sunday of the month during term time from 5pm. The 1st Sundays are Café Church Connect, which is an inclusive contemporary worship service open to all. The 3rd Sundays are Café Church Original, where we create, discuss and reflect. You’re welcome to just come along and join in, or get in touch with us and we can arrange for one of our regulars to meet you beforehand.

Café Church has been meeting for over 10 years. We try to keep a record of what we do week by week on our blog – it’s a great place to get more of a sense of what we’re like. Why not have a look?

Catholic Mass

The Catholic Chaplaincy is located a short walk from the universities. Mass is held at 5pm on Sundays weekly during term time, with additional sessions throughout the week for Mass, Confession, Rosary, Stations of the Cross, and other activities.
