Chaplaincy Activities and Facilities

The Chaplaincy offers a regular programme of worship, prayer, contemplation and social activities. All activities are open to staff and students of all faiths or none and are in the Emmanuel Centre unless otherwise stated.

The Emmanuel Centre is next to the Parkinson Building and also houses seminar rooms. We have a Common Room where you are welcome to relax on the sofa and make yourself a hot drink. Upstairs is the Claire Chapel, available all day for quiet prayer and contemplation, and the Wilson Room, available for private study or bookable for group activities.

Unity is an ongoing project in partnership with the International Office and other volunteers from around the University of Leeds. Regular events are held to promote intercultural and interfaith dialogue through socialising and social action. Check the Facebook Page for more info.

Emmanuel Café Church (Term-time only)

Emmanuel Café Church is the Sunday worship community at the Chaplaincy. Our worship is focused around discussion, reflection and ritual. There’s also a substantial slice of homemade cake and decent tea & coffee in there too.

We are a Christian community that is open and inclusive of all, but unified in a desire to grow in faith by being more open to God, more open to one another and more open to the world.

We meet 1st Sunday and 3rd Sunday of the month during term time from 5pm in the Emmanuel Centre. The 1st Sundays are Café Church Connect, which is an inclusive contemporary worship service open to all. The 3rd Sundays are Café Church Original, where we create, discuss and reflect. You’re welcome to just come along and join in, or get in touch with us and we can arrange for one of our regulars to meet you beforehand.

Café Church has been meeting for over 10 years. We try to keep a record of what we do week by week on our blog – it’s a great place to get more of a sense of what we’re like. Why not have a look?

Sundays, 5-7pm in 1st & 3rd Sundays of the month term-time, Claire Chapel with Rev Samantha Sheehan.

Liturgy in the Claire Chapel is held on the second Sunday of every month at 10.30am (except in July and August). Fr David Gill is of the Russian tradition but services are in English and followers of all traditions are welcome.

All are welcome whether members of the Orthodox Church or interested in exploring Orthodoxy. Coffee and cakes are served after the Liturgy.

Fr. David is also available on Saturday and Monday of that weekend to meet students and staff and to assist in any way that is appropriate.
